How to store matcha: protect its flavour and freshness
Keep the daily routine simple
Fine tea powder is exposed to air whenever you open the pack. Make that opening brief: use a clean, dry spoon, take the amount you need and close the pack promptly. Keep the packaging tightly sealed between uses.
Choose a cool, dry place away from direct light, the hob and strong-smelling foods. A clear jar beside the kettle may be convenient, but it exposes the tea to light and warmth.
Be careful with moisture
Water belongs in the bowl, not in the pack. Do not scoop with a damp spoon or hold the open package over steam. If you refrigerate a sealed pack according to its instructions, let it reach room temperature before opening. This reduces the risk of condensation entering the powder.
Avoid repeatedly moving an opened pack between warm and cold surroundings. The most useful routine is one you can follow consistently while keeping the powder dry.
Use the information on your pack
The printed best-before date applies to the batch in your hand. A general article cannot replace that date or guarantee a fixed number of extra months. Follow the pack’s storage guidance, and contact us if a date is unclear before ordering.
For a tea you drink only occasionally, a smaller pack may fit your routine better than a large supply. Buy an amount you expect to use, then notice how the aroma and flavour develop after opening.
When something seems wrong
Colour varies between teas, and a dry clump alone is not proof of spoilage. A product that arrives damaged, damp or otherwise questionable needs a closer look. Keep the packaging and contact us with your order number and photos.
