Matcha with water: a simple usucha recipe
Ingredients
- 2 g matcha suited to drinking with water
- 75 ml water, about 80°C
Method
- Warm the bowl with a little hot water, then empty and dry it. Briefly soften the whisk tines in warm water.
- Sift the matcha into the bowl. Add a little of the measured water and gently mix until smooth.
- Add the remaining water. Whisk quickly back and forth in a small W motion, without pressing the tines hard against the bowl.
- When the powder is evenly dispersed and there is a fine foam, lift the whisk gently. Drink freshly prepared.
Make it your own
A little more water makes a lighter cup. If it feels too sharp, try water at 75°C next time. A thick cap of foam is not a requirement for a good cup.
Choose your matcha
For drinks with milk and breakfast recipes, start with Latte Grade Matcha. For matcha with water, choose a tea recommended for that preparation. Use a small kitchen scale for consistent results.
